After starting out in her native Republic of Ireland with St Francis and Raheny United, Campbell arrived in the Barclays Women’s Super League with Manchester City. She went on to also turn out for Liverpool and Everton in the English top flight before enjoying the final days of her career with London City Lionesses. Campbell won the Barclays WSL2 title with both Liverpool and London City Lionesses.

On the international stage, Campbell made 57 appearances for the Republic of Ireland while she scored four goals.

Announcing her retirement, Campbell said “It’s been a while coming but it’s something that I’ve struggled accepting for a long time now. Football has been my life for over 25 years. It has given me so many amazing opportunities, allowed me to travel the world and to meet some of the best people. It has helped me to become the person I am today.

“Unfortunately, I knew that playing the sport I love, and have given everything to, would have to end some day. I just never wanted to believe that it would have come this soon.”

Campbell largely spent her career playing as a full-back and made her name through her deadly long throws into the opposition box.
