FC Barcelona are set to face Chelsea in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge tonight. The Catalan club will be keen to emerge with three points against their English opposition and solidify their standing in the competition.
Hansi Flick’s team has had a mixed start to their League Phase, winning two games but losing against PSG and dropping points against Club Brugge. A win against Chelsea would go a long way towards securing a top-eight finish.
According to journalist Alex Pintanel via X, four Barcelona players are one yellow card away from suspension and would miss the Eintracht Frankfurt game at the Spotify Camp Nou if they are booked against Chelsea.
These players include Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casado, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez. The former two were suspension risks even for this Stamford Bridge trip had they been booked against Club Brugge, but they avoided that.
Frenkie, Fermin, and Lamine are all first-choice starters for Hansi Flick, and their absence would be difficult to contend with against Frankfurt. The German manager will therefore hope they can keep a clean disciplinary record at Chelsea.
While Frenkie and Lamine can be trusted to keep their wits about them, both Casado and Fermin Lopez love a tackle, so the risk of a booking is considerably higher. Let us see how this situation plays out in London and whether Barcelona manage to escape unscathed.
