Leicester City enter January needing action on ins and outs to keep promotion hopes alive after starting 2026 in mid-table. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, four deals look essential.
Last time in the Championship, City did almost no January business yet still went up from top spot despite a wobble.
First, sign a striker. With Julian Carranza set to leave and Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka on only three non-penalty goals, City need more punch, Michail Antonio is training and in talks, and free agents and loans will be the focus unless a big-money sale lands.
Second, sell Harry Winks. He is not even making the bench, with Marti Cifuentes calling it a technical decision, and with six months left, any fee is better than none.
Third, sign a midfielder. Winks is sidelined, Boubakary Soumare has a knee injury and Aaron Ramsey may miss time after a hamstring recurrence, leaving numbers light. A deeper midfielder is the priority, and a loan for Sunderland’s promotion-winning captain Dan Neil would fit.
Fourth, sell Wout Faes. He did not play in December despite making every bench and is understood to want a January move to aid Belgium World Cup hopes, with 18 months left on his deal.
Ben Nelson, Jannik Vestergaard and Caleb Okoli offer cover, Harry Souttar might return soon and Bade Aluko can fill in, so a sale should not cause a shortage.
