FPL Stock Report: Newcastle rising as Liverpool assets falter

Newcastle and Manchester City options are rising while Liverpool and Manchester United assets face scrutiny in this week’s FPL Stock Report. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, underlying numbers should trump early points.

Hull City’s back line has two clean sheets, yet their xG against is 3.1. Coventry City’s is 2.6 without a shut-out, so £4.0m punts at Hull may not last.

This column was filed before Monday night’s Aston Villa v Arsenal because of the transfer deadline, so late developments are not included.

Yoane Wissa looks a bargain. Priced at £6.0m, he has one goal, one assist and 1.34 xG from six shots, already rising to £6.1m. Anthony Elanga has two in two but only 0.42 xG from four efforts, so he is a short-term punt rather than a must-buy.

Rayan Cherki’s price has climbed despite an opening bench role and the risk of rotation. Two weekend goals underlined his value, and downgrading to him to free cash probably makes sense.

Virgil Van Dijk and Liverpool’s defence have conceded four from 3.9xG under Andoni Iraola, which hints at poor value. Full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have combined for just 0.18 expected goal involvements.

Matheus Cunha returned one assist and 0.26 expected goal involvements even as Manchester United routed Ipswich Town, and Marcus Rashford’s return could trim minutes, so a sale for Cherki may appeal. Enzo Le Fée has two blanks for Sunderland, and while his 0.57 xGI is decent, tough fixtures could keep returns down.
