Gameweek 1 delivered a strange start, so the focus is patience, not panic. Here are the FPL risers and fallers to know.
Sunderland Echo notes that early transfers and wildcards rarely pay off. One week is too little data, and proven picks like Erling Haaland or Bruno Fernandes are unlikely to keep blanking.
Mamadou Sangaré, Brentford, impressed on debut in a 3-0 win over Spurs. His defensive work should persist and at £5.5m he looks a bargain, but do not expect 14 points every week.
Maxim De Cuyper is starting wide for Brighton, boosting his threat. Avoid buying before Gameweek 2 in case a new winger arrives, but he could be superb value if he keeps that role.
Cole Palmer started sharply, scoring and assisting in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Fulham. Five shots and three key passes hint at volume that may justify a swift move.
Ezri Konsa’s £55m switch to Arsenal makes a £4.5m route into their defence tempting. He may not start before Gameweek 3, yet could be excellent cover until William Saliba returns in winter.
Cristhian Mosquera is the flip side, likely to lose his place once Konsa beds in by Gameweek 3 or 4. Do not sell yet, Konsa missed pre-season and has not played since the World Cup.
Bryan Mbeumo disappointed and, more worryingly, operated wide rather than centrally with Benjamin Šeško absent. Hold before a home match against Ipswich, but note the risk to his long-term appeal.
Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke carry red flags, with Watkins linked to Saudi Arabia and Solanke short of fitness and possibly behind Omar Marmoush at Spurs. Watkins returned to training on Monday, so he could yet stay. Monitor price moves, the FPL site now flags impending rises and drops, stay patient if you can, but be ready to act.
