The club confirmed on Monday night that Fran Escribá has been appointed Real Valladolid head coach until June 2027, succeeding Luis García Tevenet, who was dismissed after the 5-1 defeat to Granada CF on Sunday.
The change follows a poor run that left the side in the relegation places, prompting the board to turn to a coach with extensive top flight and second tier experience.
Escribá, 60, will lead his first training session at 11:00 on Tuesday on the annex pitches by the Estadio José Zorrilla, an open session before his formal presentation to the media.
He emerged from Valencia’s academy, where he coached the youth team, then worked as Quique Sánchez Flores’s assistant at Getafe, Valencia, Benfica and Atlético de Madrid before striking out on his own.
At Elche from 2012 to 2015 he won promotion to La Liga and consolidated the club in the elite. He then managed Getafe in 2015 to 2016 in a battle for survival, and Villarreal from 2016 to 2018, guiding them into Europe before an early dismissal in his second season.
Spells followed at Celta de Vigo in 2019, a return to Elche in 2021 to secure survival, Real Zaragoza in 2022 to 2023 in Segunda, and Granada CF in 2024 to 2025 until his May 2025 exit.
He arrives to handle the second half of the campaign and the following season, with safety the priority.
