As reported by LDH, the recent call up of Johan Bakayoko to replace Jeremy Doku seems to have convinced the Anderlecht’s Francis Amuzu to pick Ghana over Belgium in international football. Amuzu had been weighing up his options, but after Bakayoko was chosen ahead of him it appears that his mind has been made up. The 23-year-old has been capped by Belgium at U21 level and had been waiting to see who would replace Roberto Martinez and whether or not he would feature in the new mans plans. Domenico Tedesco has decided that Bakayoko is higher on his list of players than Amuzu.
Ghana had been asking Amuzu to represent them since the end of the 2022 World Cup. There are a number of Pro League players who are part of Chris Hughton’s first Black Stars squad, including fellow Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru. Denis Odoi, Joseph Paintstil, Kamal Sowah and Abdul Nurudeen are all part of the Ghana side looking to qualify for AFCON at the start of 2024.
So far this season, Amuzu has scored three goals and provided seven assists in 29 league games. He has also provided one assist during the sides Europa Conference League campaign, which has progressed to the quarter-finals after a win away against Villareal. Amuzu will be looked to continue his creative output following injuries to Yari Verschaeren and Islam Slimani.
