According to L'Équipe, Franck Haise is on the verge of taking over at Rennes after leaving Nice, while Habib Beye, dismissed by Rennes on Monday, could resurface at Marseille. Two managers leading different Ligue one sides in the same season is rare, seeing two would be unprecedented in France this century.
A month and a half after departing the Aiglons by mutual consent on 28 December, Haise is set to sign for another red and black club. Beye was sacked the day after a 1-3 defeat at Lens and is already in advanced talks with OM, where Roberto De Zerbi left on Wednesday.
In the 21st century, only five coaches have managed two Ligue one clubs in a single campaign, Angel Marcos, Rolland Courbis, Antoine Kombouaré, Franck Passi and Michel Der Zakarian.
What sets this season apart is that both clubs are chasing Europe, with OM targeting the Champions League, whereas such appointments usually aim at avoiding relegation. The outlier was Rennes in January 2016, when Courbis arrived after leaving Montpellier, first as adviser to president René Ruello, then as head coach eight days later, replacing Philippe Montanier with the team sixth and eyeing Europe.
Whether such quick rebounds are wise remains debatable given the mental strain that can follow difficult spells. If Beye is appointed in the coming days at OM, he could even set a record in this regard in Ligue one.
