Franck Haise has been appointed Stade Rennais head coach on a deal to June 2027. He signed after a visit to La Piverdière and replaces Habib Beye, removed eight days earlier. He said he initially struggled to find his bearings.
According to L'Équipe, Haise previously spent six seasons in the Rennes academy from 2006 to 2012, joining at 35 after three years with Stade Mayennais in the fifth tier. Recruited by Patrick Rampillon, he led the under-15s then the under-17s.
Former prospects recall a demanding yet attentive coach. Yassine Jebbour cites charisma, a direct approach in the player’s interest and a paternal touch, while Pierre Lemonnier highlights firm but fair leadership. Ex-general manager Pierre Dréossi remembers a less academic voice who built confidence.
His spell ended in 2012 during a centre restructure that sparked a succession battle, and he left for US Changé in R1. Rampillon later spoke of a break with principles and values, while Dréossi labelled it a war of succession. Régis Le Bris also departed for Lorient.
Both men have since thrived, with Haise saying in 2022 that Rennes had been a useful laboratory for self-questioning. Back at a renovated La Piverdière, he noted the emotion of returning 20 years after his first arrival. Becoming number one was not necessarily in his mind.
