A spokesperson for Frank McCourt said he is expected in Marseille on Tuesday, with Olympique de Marseille engulfed in a governance crisis at the top of the club.

McCourt, OM owner since 2016, attended Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Strasbourg at the Vélodrome. The team were led by interim coach Jacques Abardonado after Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi left in midweek.

The turmoil intensified on Sunday when director of football Medhi Benatia, who oversaw the sporting department, resigned.

The club has not issued any communication since, including on Benatia’s departure. There was no club comment on McCourt’s expected visit on Tuesday morning.

During Saturday’s game, protest banners targeted McCourt and president Pablo Longoria, whose position has been weakened. The most strident called for both to leave, while others depicted McCourt as an absent investor and a ghost ship captain.
