Two goals from wing-back Freddie Lane helped Leeds United Under-21s to a National League Cup victory over Solihull Moors.
The Whites opened their Group C account with the win, a result which the goalscorer believes was more than deserved.
“I thought we played really well against the senior side but obviously scoreline-wise we could have maybe won by a few more.
“We could have been a bit more clinical and maybe a few little key moments defensively but overall I thought we were really good.”
Discussing his brace, Lane added: “First one I just showed a bit of composure in the box, took a touch past the defender and got a little bit of fortune with deflection, took it past the keeper.
“And then the second one just probably had a bit of confidence from the first one to go on and then had confidence to strike it with my left foot and then hit it well in the far bottom corner, so I was buzzing.”
Having worked his way back from injury midway through last campaign, the versatile defender then travelled with Daniel Farke’s side to America for the pre-season tour.
Speaking about the last few months, he said: “Yeah, it has been good! It has been tough, I have worked off-season to make sure I come back in good shape and remain fit.
“And then going away with the first team, I learnt a lot being around them every day. I learnt a lot of key attributes, seeing what they do, and then I have tried to develop my own game in different ways. It has all come together tonight!”
