Former Sevilla star Tomáš Vaclík has revealed that he was approached over the possibility of signing for Barcelona earlier this season.
Barcelona were of course forced to dip into the market for reinforcements between the posts back in September.
This came after Blaugrana no.1 Marc-André ter Stegen was condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
After taking into consideration the profiles of a number of free agent goalkeepers, Deco and co. ultimately opted to bring in Wojciech Szczęsny.
As alluded to above, though, also contacted by the Catalans at one point was veteran shot-stopper Tomáš Vaclík.
Speaking during an interview with Polish outlet TVP Sport, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, this week, free agent Vaclík explained:
“I was approached by Barcelona to replace Ter Stegen, but in the end they chose Szczesny.”
The former Czech international continued:
“It’s a great moment for him. He was one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and suddenly they told him he was no longer part of the project, so he decided to retire.”
