The midfield was already the strongest area of the FC Barcelona team during the last season, but the Blaugranes further reinforced this area during the last summer transfer window by adding one of the very best midfielders in Europe, Rodri Hernandez.

With the Spaniard’s arrival, Hansi Flick’s task of picking three midfielders for his starting lineups has become even more difficult, as he has several quality options. Going forward, it looks like his task is going to get even more difficult, as another midfielder looks close to returning to availability.

This midfielder is Frenkie de Jong, who has not been able to play so far this season because of an injury he suffered during the World Cup. However, he is quite near to returning to competitive fitness, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, this is clear from some of the images the Dutchman recently shared on his social media. In these images, he can be seen training, both with and without the ball.

The club’s plans for the Dutch star are to get him back in training this Monday, when he will train with the players present at the club in this international break. After that, he will train with the internationals, once they return on 8th October, two days before that game against Getafe.

Although he will start training with his teammates in these coming days, he will still need a significant amount of time to return to his best level, and it is expected to be two to three weeks more before he can return to the pitch in an official game.

Hopefully, these last stages of his recovery would go without any problems, and Frenkie de Jong will return to full fitness ahead of a crucial stretch of the season for Barcelona, providing Flick with another option in midfield as the team’s schedule becomes more hectic.
