Jon Dahl Tomasson looks the most likely candidate to take over the vacant manager job at Norwich City.

The Canaries have spent the November international break searching for a new boss after making the decision to part ways with Liam Manning following a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City.

Norwich currently sit 23rd in the second-tier standings and are four points behind Oxford United in 21st, which means that even victory in their next match won’t take them out of the relegation zone.

Several managers have been linked with taking over at Carrow Road, including former Wolves and Bournemouth boss Gary O’ Neil. However, it was recently reported that he is now out of the running for the role.

It was revealed that ex-Blackburn Rovers and Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson had been interviewed for the position and following the update that O’Neil was no longer a candidate, looks to be the most realistic option to take over at Carrow Road.

Jon Dahl Tomasson backed to take Norwich City out of current mess

Tomasson guided Blackburn Rovers to within touching distance of the play-offs during the 2022/23 season, missing out due to goal difference, but was then dismissed the following season after a poor run of results.

His time as Sweden manager also didn’t reflect too favourably and he was sacked after defeats against Kosovo twice and Switzerland.

Despite this, Football League World’s Norwich City fan pundit, Zeke Downes, backs the Dane to take over at Carrow Road and lead the Canaries out of their current mess.

“This seemed like the most feasible choice in the end,” stated Zeke. “When he was linked it seemed like the most likely option and Gary O'Neil didn't really look like it was ever going to happen, didn't really suit our squad or anything.

“Jon Dahl Tomasson, he's had experience in the Championship, also internationally, has a relatively good pedigree and has experience with players like ours in a sort of system that we would use.

“So, it looks like a good fit. There are fears and worries there, as there would with any manager that comes into the Championship.

“I think we all just need to get behind them because we need it now. This is a very important part of the season and we need a fast start.

“We need the manager to be aligned with the fans and the players, then hopefully we can rise up the league.”

Jon Dahl Tomasson may have to make sacrifices to succeed at Norwich City

The best and worst of Tomasson as a manager were fully showcased during his time in charge of Blackburn Rovers, where he got the East Lancashire outfit playing beautiful football that dazzled supporters.

However, it wasn’t always the most effective way to play in the Championship and ultimately ended with him losing his job and Rovers coming worryingly close to relegation.

If the Dane does take over at Norwich, he may have to make initial sacrifices on his philosophy to succeed. Although he may have a plan regarding how his Canaries side will play in the long term, avoiding the drop is their primary concern at this moment in time.

Therefore, Tomasson needs to prove that he has learned from his experience with Blackburn and use it to benefit Norwich in their current situation.
