According to Globo.com, negotiations over Fernando Seabra swung from apparent agreement with Vasco to a U-turn, with the coach staying at Coritiba for the ongoing campaign.

Vasco, seeking a successor to Renato Gaúcho two weeks after his sacking, moved for Seabra late last week. CEO Fred Luz told Coritiba’s William Thomas of an offer, and director Admar Lopes flew to Curitiba on Wednesday to seal terms.

Seabra rejected the first salary proposal, then Vasco raised it to roughly triple his Coritiba pay. Agent Hugo Magalhães arrived on Wednesday night to accept, and in the early hours of Thursday he posted a celebratory photo with the coach. The switch still hinged on a release clause.

Coritiba demanded the clause in a single payment, while Vasco sought instalments. Talks were briefly ended then revived, and a mooted plan for the agent to pay upfront with later reimbursement did not materialise.

On Friday morning Seabra told Coritiba’s board he would remain, abandoning the Vasco move. The club later released a video with Thomas and the coach on his decision. He now leads a training game with Internacional on Saturday, then Chapecoense on 10 and a Brasileirão return against Palmeiras on 22. He was appointed in December and is under contract to season end, with the side seventh in Série A.
