The transfer window has closed, but Manu Koné’s name continues to be a hot topic.

The French midfielder was one of the key figures in the final hours of the summer transfer window, when Chelsea attempted to bring him to London, initiating negotiations with Roma.

The deal fell through, largely due to Gian Piero Gasperini’s stance, who opposed Koné’s departure.

The manager considers the Frenchman an important asset for his Roma club, and his veto contributed to scuppering the potential move to the Premier League.

The story, however, may not end there.

According to Sport.FR in France, Chelsea continues to pursue Koné and could return as early as the winter transfer window.

The Blues’ interest, therefore, doesn’t appear to have waned with the summer transfer window.

Koné remains at Roma, and Gasperini is holding on to him, but Chelsea could come knocking on Trigoria’s door again in January.
