Harry Kane has taken the next step in his development at FC Bayern – and no longer just impresses as a goalscorer. Uli Hoeneß has now explained in detail how much the Englishman has changed under Vincent Kompany
In an interview with kicker, the Bayern patron paints a clear picture: Kane has matured into a much more complete player in Munich. „We knew Kane as a goalscorer, but not yet as a playmaker,“ he emphasized in the interview. „He has learned that here,“ the 74-year-old clarified
This assessment is remarkable, because for years Kane was regarded as a classic nine – a player who primarily plays to his strengths in the penalty area. „He was always in the box,“ Hoeneß recalls
But this profile has changed and, aided by his past, in which he was also deployed in midfield, Kane now shows completely different facets
A key factor in this development is coach Vincent Kompany. According to Hoeneß, the Belgian has above all rekindled the running element in Kane: „He discovered this running element under Vincent Kompany.“
The 32-year-old now works more intensively against the ball, actively participates in pressing and is even present in defensive set-pieces
The attacker’s development as a player is particularly striking, with Hoeneß raving about Kane’s passing: „He plays 70-meter passes to Olise from a standing start, it’s amazing.“

Looking back, Hoeneß also recalls the doubts surrounding the transfer in the summer of 2023. „We also really struggled with it, it was a sound barrier,“ he explains
It was not only the high transfer fee, but also Kane’s form at Tottenham at the time that caused scepticism: „It was a certain risk.“ Today, there is no longer any sign of that. „But he has played incredibly here over the last few years,“ Hoeneß clarifies
In addition to his sporting achievements, the honorary president particularly emphasizes Kane’s personality: „Such a good character, such a role model for our young players,“ Hoeneß emphasizes
The Englishman enjoys great respect in the dressing room – and has long since established himself as a leading player
In the end, the conclusion could hardly be clearer: Kane is not just a world-class striker at FC Bayern – but „a perfect footballer“.
