It is absolutely staggering to think that Philippe Clement could do no wrong last August and had an approval rating of around 92% positive.
To this present day that could not have turned around much more and is probably close to about 99% disapproval.
So how did Rangers’ Belgian manager go from absolute untouchable hero who fans swore by to the current joke figure he has become and arguably one of the most disliked Rangers managers of all time?
Surprisingly, it is simpler than you might think.
It all changed the day that he made excuses at Parkhead and tried to use the Ross County result as justification for Rangers latest loss in the east end of Glasgow.
Has approval rating jumped down from 92% to barely just over 70 which was the biggest loss of approval since he had become manager.
However, the final nail in his popularity coffin was a defeat to Aberdeen. The defeat at Pittodrie site his approval rating plummet incredibly from that 70% to a measly 10.
At that point, Aberdeen were around 10 points ahead and flying in the league and defeat to them was unthinkable.
From there on Clement’s excuses fell on deaf ears and supporters officially turned on him.
Since that day the general groundswell has been against Clement and fans have essentially wanted rid.
Unfortunately, he is very much a case of the hero staying his course too long and becoming the villain and he is now among the most disliked Rangers managers we can ever remember.
The funny thing is, we don’t even think he’s a particularly nice person. Extremely arrogant and a dreadful man manager his original straight shooting press conferences have become babbled excuses and nonsense and he knows he is out of his depth.
Rangers is a tough gig – less of a budget than Celtic but expected to match them the only magician who can is unfortunately no longer with us and now any manager who joins Rangers has expectations that only an absolute master could hope to fulfil.
Clement falls well short of that and has sadly for him lost all the credit he had in the bank.
