Fulham appoint Álvaro Arbeloa as head coach on three-year deal | OneFootball

Fulham have appointed Álvaro Arbeloa as head coach on a three-year contract, confirming the former Liverpool and Real Madrid defender as Marco Silva’s successor. Silva left for Benfica after his deal expired.

According to Sunderland Echo, Fulham were the only side to complete a Premier League double over Sunderland last season, making the hire notable for Black Cats supporters ahead of the new campaign.

Arbeloa’s playing career included spells with Real Madrid, Liverpool and West Ham United. He made 98 appearances for Liverpool before returning to Madrid, where he won major honours.

The 43-year-old has since moved into coaching, most recently working at Real Madrid before departing in May. He now steps into the Premier League with Fulham, who have acted quickly to replace Silva.

After his appointment was confirmed, Arbeloa said it was an honour to begin this new stage with Fulham, which he called the oldest club in London, and he spoke of responsibility and gratitude to Shahid Khan and Tony Khan for their trust. He added that he looks forward to the Craven Cottage atmosphere, to starting pre-season with the players next week, and that he is sure they will enjoy an incredible journey together.
