Fulham are keen to extend Marco Silva’s contract but have yet to enter formal negotiations with the Portuguese coach.
Silva met with the club’s owner Shahid Khan last week in which it was made clear to him that the Cottagers wanted to extend his deal, which expires next summer.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Khan said Silva was in Fulham’s long-term plans and they hope to fend off interest in his services by offering him a new contract.
"I really like him, not only as a person, [but] as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he is in our long-term plans."
Silva, speaking ahead of Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, said he felt at home at Fulham, where he has been manager for the last four years, but wouldn’t let his contract situation distract him and his players.
“I have met him already,” Silva said. “The main reason was not just the contract, we have many things to talk about,” Silva said
“I have felt always part of this football club, from the first day until day. Like players, it is normal they [other clubs] show interest in myself and my staff. It is a normal situation. [But] full focus [is] on us and working with the club on the future too.
“I have been here five years, why not more. It [the contract situation] is not going to be something that disrupts our season. If I have to, I will speak with you [about it] every single week as well. I think it is not necessary to speak every week about it. The right time to speak, it will arrive.”
Silva was appointed Fulham manager in 2021, leading the Whites to promotion to the Premier League in his first season in charge.
Fulham have become a stable Premier League side under Silva, finishing 10th, 13th and 11th, whilst recording a club-record points tally last season.
Silva has publicly voiced his frustrations at the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market, and that will doubtless play a role in any negotiations over a new deal.
Formal negotiations have yet to take place, with Silva and the club focussed on getting results after losing their last three Premier League games, but Fulham have made their position over Silva’s future clear.
