Fulham sign £30m Shea Charles after Leeds bids fail, midfielder hails ‘perfect’ move | OneFootball

Fulham have signed Shea Charles in a £30m deal after Leeds United failed with multiple bids, and the midfielder says the move is perfect for him.

Leeds held talks with Southampton for much of the summer and made three offers. An initial bid was rejected, then £23m plus add-ons was turned down last month. Southampton wanted £30m, Leeds did not meet it, with £40m sent to Man City for James Trafford, and a £25m package was also refused.

As Leeds stalled, Fulham stepped in and paid the asking price. Leeds tempted Harry Wilson from Fulham earlier this summer, but The Cottagers have now secured Charles.

“I’m buzzing to finally get it over the line. The Club has got a really good foundation, from the bottom to the top really. It’s a great club, with a really good vision – the Manager explained that to me,” he said. He told Fulham’s website.

“To be here is a massive privilege. I hope to really kickstart my Premier League career. At such a good club as well, it’s perfect for me, and hopefully perfect for the fans as well.”

Leeds are yet to sign a new midfielder this summer. Brenden Aaronson and Wilson can operate in more attacking midfield roles, and interest in Charles suggests Daniel Farke would consider another addition.

Leeds could have been starting Charles on Wednesday night at Croke Park against Man United. Instead, his next visit to Elland Road is due on 19 December, when Leeds host Fulham.
