Real Madrid’s victory over Rayo Vallecano was overshadowed by tension and a series of refereeing decisions that left the visiting side furious.
What should have been remembered purely as a hard-fought match instead descended into chaos during the closing stages, with Rayo players and staff feeling deeply aggrieved by how the match was handled.
The game ended with Rayo Vallecano reduced to just nine men against Real Madrid, a situation that summed up the frustration felt by the away side.
The first dismissal came in the 80th minute, when Pathe Ciss was shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Dani Ceballos.
That decision already left Rayo under serious pressure as they tried to protect a precious result late in the game.
Tempers continued to rise as the match moved into stoppage time.
With the score at 1-1, the tension reached its peak when Real Madrid were awarded a penalty in the 99th minute, a moment that proved decisive and devastating for Rayo.
As Rayo desperately sought a last-gasp equaliser, the situation spiralled further. The ball went out of play, and Rayo full-back Pep Chavarria attempted to retrieve it quickly to restart play.

In the process, he pushed Rodrygo against the advertising boards while the ball was not in play.
The referee immediately intervened and showed Chavarria a second yellow card, reducing Rayo to nine players in the 103rd minute.
After the match, Chavarria took to social media to express his anger and disappointment.
In a strongly worded message, he made it clear how deeply the night had affected him.
The defender wrote, “Today is one of the saddest days I’ve ever left a field. This team deserves respect,” capturing the mood within the Rayo dressing room.
He then addressed the supporters directly, acknowledging their backing in such a painful moment, adding,
“Thank you, Rayistas, we will continue to fight against everything and everyone. God is just and sees everything. Faith,” he concluded.
