Giorgio Furlani has claimed that AC Milan do not have any agreement in place with Fabio Paratici, and assured that his relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic is optimal.
Milan will meet Inter for the fourth time this season tonight at San Siro and in the third different competition, this time in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final clash. With two wins and a draw, the Rossoneri have had the better of the fixture in 2024-25.
That goes completely against the grain in what has been a dreadful campaign otherwise, including a current ninth-place standing in the league and a Champions League exit at the hands of Feyenoord in the play-off round.
There has been a lot of external noise surrounding the club, with multiple reports suggesting earlier today that the Rossoneri are closing in on hiring Fabio Paratici as their new sporting director.
Furlani spoke to SportMediaset before kick-off in the derby at San Siro, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.
What is the importance of this trophy for Milan?
“It’s a very important match, the derby is a special match with a different specific weight, especially in the semi-final of a cup which has been an objective since the beginning of the season.”
Is there an agreement with Paratici?
“First of all, we are not happy with the sporting results of this season. The sporting results are the centre of the club, we are working for the coming season to have better results. Within this activity there are various strands, various preparations that we are doing.
“We have not yet closed or decided with anyone, I do not comment on roles or subjects but we are preparing because we want to improve the sporting part.”
Will Ibrahimovic remain in the Milan project?
“Zlatan may have seemed absent to you but for me he wasn’t. We are always in contact, we work together in total harmony. Internally it is clear who the people are, who does what and how we work together.
“Perhaps externally there is a bit of confusion. Ibra will remain in this project, we work well together, for me nothing has changed compared to a few weeks ago.”

What profile should the new director have?
“We haven’t had a traditional sporting director for the last two seasons, we’ve separated the role into various people in the club.
“Now what we’re evaluating, decisions haven’t been made yet, to take a more traditional director and consolidate those roles into one person. It will still remain a working group, we’ll work together with the sole objective of being successful on the pitch.”
