Further Nico Raskin twist as Rangers midfielder ‘signs new deal’

That The Rangers Review were that excited about the Raskin story does suggest that Rangers are not exactly in the best place right now. It had been claimed that Nico Raskin signed a contract. That in actual fact gave him a plus one year, so his contract expires in 2028 and not 2027. The good news here is that this increases his value. Rangers can sell him for more, and perhaps that is the bit of a catch and twist to what Raskin said recently about giving something back.

Contract confusion

In actual fact, it appears Raskin in fact did sign a new contract. He had been offered a new contract but had reportedly not signed it. It appears this revelation is that he did sign a new contract of sorts. But he signed a contract abridged to his current one which gave him an extra year, a plus one. That does give him a higher value.

Rangers silence

Why the board haven’t announced a new deal for him now that Rangers are secure with him for another two and a half years we’re not sure, but it’s gone under the radar. It was widely reported by credible sources that Raskin signed a four and a half year deal in 2023. That’s to 2027. It appears this new information is an extension. Or an activation of an existing clause.

Raskin’s form and future

The fact is though that he has barely kicked his own backside for the best part of 12 months. We know he is a talented player, he is a good player and has improved a great deal. But he is nowhere near as good as we need him to be, and he does not want to play at Rangers anymore. He has been pretty clear about that by not being super clear about staying. He says he wants to give something back and does not exactly hold back on the ‘being sold’ talk.

Not a big story

So nevertheless, it is an extra year for Raskin and that means that at least we will sell him, hopefully for something that has decent value for us. He is an asset player and Rangers will not sell for much less than £15M.
