Future Chelsea signing and current Strasbourg captain Emmanuel Emegha has been suspended by his club.
"Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace has decided to suspend Emmanuel Emegha for its next Ligue 1 match, this Saturday, December 6th, in Toulouse," the French club, also owned by BlueCo, explained in a statement.
"This decision was made following the player's recent failure to respect the club's values, expectations, and rules.
"Racing reaffirms its commitment to the essential principles of exemplary conduct and respect for the team environment.
"Emmanuel remains an important member of our team, who has always given his all for the club on the pitch. He will be reinstated to the squad after this match.
"No further comment will be made."
Reports have suggested that the comments come from a recent interview with the Dutch international in which he said he thought Strasbourg was in Germany before joining. Strasbourg has been German before, notably switching back to French control after both World War 1 and World War 2.
Emegha will likely return to action in the Europa Conference League next week when Strasbourg play Aberdeen in Scotland.
