Leeds United legend Terry Yorath has died aged 75 after a short illness. Match of the Day host Gabby Logan led the tributes on Thursday, having left Wednesday's programme midway through due to a family emergency.

The family said in a statement on BBC Breakfast that he was a hero to many but, to them, a gentle and quiet father. They were heartbroken, yet comforted by the thought of him reuniting with Daniel.

Daniel died in 1992, aged 15, from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy while playing football at home with his father. Yorath is survived by three other children, Gabby, Louise and Jordan.

He spent nine years at Leeds from 1967, making 199 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

Yorath captained Wales 42 times before retiring in 1986. He then managed Swansea City, winning promotion from Division Four while also serving part time as Wales manager.

He left Swansea in 1991 to focus on Wales, recording wins over Brazil and Germany and a FIFA world ranking of 27th. After Wales failed to reach the 1994 World Cup, his contract was not renewed.
