Gabriel Barbosa is close to becoming Santos’s third-highest scorer of the post-Pelé era after netting twice in the 3-2 win at Internacional on Sunday. The brace at Beira-Rio lifted him to 103 goals in 250 games. Diario Do Peixe notes his surge up the club’s charts.

He is fifth on the club’s post-Pelé list, one goal behind João Paulo and Serginho Chulapa, both on 104.

Two more would leave only Robinho on 111 and Neymar on 158 ahead of him. In Santos’s all-time scoring list he sits 23rd.

Barbosa is the eighth-highest scorer in the Brasileirão since 1971. This season he has 19 goals and seven assists in 40 matches, close to a goal every other game.

Born in São Bernardo do Campo, he was spotted by Zito in futsal and joined the academy in 2004 aged eight. He made his debut in 2013. Across his first two spells, 2013-2016 and 2018, he played 210 games, scoring 84 with 13 assists.

He helped Santos win consecutive Paulista titles in 2015 and 2016. He was Brasileirão top scorer in 2018 with 18, and three-time Copa do Brasil top scorer in 2014, 2015 and 2018. He is on loan from Cruzeiro until the end of the year.
