Gabigol released a new rap on Friday on digital platforms, ‘Alvinegro Praiano 2’, declaring his affection for Santos. The track features producer Ecologyk alongside rappers Malcolm VL, Kyan and Kawe. According to Globo.com, Gabigol is credited as a collaborator on the release.
The lyrics centre on Santos, its idols and the club’s support. Pelé, Edu, Coutinho, Serginho Chulapa, Dorval and Neymar are all namechecked. The song also salutes the Meninos da Vila and the academy’s tradition of producing stars.
The video is packed with images of Santos fans in and around Vila Belmiro. The artists filmed on the pitch and in the dressing room, with match footage spliced in, mainly Gabigol goals. Midfielder Gabriel Bontempo also features.
In his verses, Gabigol says he has always been a Menino da Vila and describes his agreement with Santos as the return of someone who was always there. He affirms his bond with the club and references team-mates Neymar and Bontempo, recently called up by Brazil.
He calls Santos his team at heart, speaks of a black and white heart, and says the shirt makes him feel a hero while still that academy kid with Torcida Jovem roaring. He mentions his mother’s prayers, asks for the ball to Ney with Bontempo in the box, then says a pass to him means a goal before he jets home.
Last week Santos published an apology from Gabigol to supporters after comments in an interview caused a stir. He said he never meant to disrespect the club and that some lines were taken out of context.
