Midfielder Gabriel Bontempo received a video call from Neymar after earning his first Brazil senior call-up, celebrating while in Santos camp.

At CT Rei Pelé, he was with the Santos squad to face Atlético-MG in the Copa Sudamericana quarter-final first leg at Vila Belmiro at 19:00 Brasília time. According to Globo.com, the call came on Wednesday afternoon.

In videos released by Santos, Neymar, the number 10, congratulated him by video and said he would give the 21-year-old a hug later.

Bontempo told him he had not expected the news and was extremely happy. He also thanked the Santos fans after the announcement.

Still in camp, Gabigol offered congratulations and sang a tune Bontempo wrote as a child. The number nine has been named by Cuca for Wednesday’s game.

Bontempo will represent Brazil against Australia on 25 September at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, then on 29 September at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Brazil then play India on the third of October in Kolkata.
