Gabon vs Côte d'Ivoire
Wilfried Singo has joined the Côte d'Ivoire squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Galatasaray defender had been expected for several days in the national team camp ahead of the matches against Burundi. His late arrival was due to administrative formalities related to his recent move to Turkey.
Singo was initially included in Emerse Faé's squad for this decisive qualifying double-header. His temporary absence from the group had raised questions about his availability for the 7th and 8th matchdays. The Ivorian Football Federation reassured fans, explaining that the player would join the squad after resolving issues linked to his club transfer.
The right-back finally reported to the FIF technical center in Abidjan before the Elephants' departure for Franceville, Gabon. Singo's recent signing with Galatasaray required several days to complete all administrative procedures. The Turkish club released the player to honor his international call-up after finalizing the last details of his transfer.
After defeating Burundi 1-0 on Friday, September 5, the Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire are set to lock horns with the Panthers of Gabon this Tuesday, September 9, 2025. It's a top-of-the-table clash between the Ivorian leaders (19 points) and their closest challengers (18 points), separated by just a single point.
