Gabriel Gudmundsson says he is content at Leeds United despite links to Chelsea, after a strong first season under Daniel Farke and four World Cup starts for Sweden.

“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football. But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.” He was speaking to Hallandsposten.

Chelsea are searching for a left-back following Marc Cucurella’s sale to Real Madrid, with £47m arrival Marco Palestra a right-back by trade. Gudmundsson is thought to be viewed as an alternative option.

Leeds are unlikely to entertain approaches for the 27-year-old unless an irresistibly high bid lands. He featured in 32 Premier League matches in his maiden campaign, missing six through injury and suspension, and has impressed supporters and staff with his attitude.

Leeds are expected to recruit a back-up left-back this summer to understudy Gudmundsson. There is no senior left-footed deputy, with cover James Justin a natural right-back and academy prospect Jayden Lienou yet to debut. Jack Harrison struggled when used there and is expected to leave this window, despite Fiorentina not triggering his £6m clause.
