Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has missed Sweden training on Tuesday and again on Wednesday because of illness, placing his involvement in Monday’s World Cup opener against Tunisia in doubt.
According to Aftonbladet, he also skipped Wednesday’s session. Press officer Petra Thorén said he was still at the hotel and in a bad way, with mild symptoms, and would not detail the issue or judge progress.
The left-back had only just returned after five weeks out with a hamstring problem sustained in April’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.
If he recovers, he is considered an automatic pick to start against Tunisia. Head coach Graham Potter prefers him at left wing-back and he began both crucial World Cup qualifying play-off matches.
Teammate Hjalmar Ekdal said the group had received little information, adding that Gudmundsson was likely feeling rough and isolating as much as possible.
Sweden then face the Netherlands in Houston, Texas five days later, before meeting Ao Tanaka’s Japan in Arlington on June 26.
