Gabriel Gudmundsson has missed Sweden training for a second day through illness, leaving his involvement in Monday’s World Cup opener against Tunisia in doubt.
According to Aftonbladet, national team press officer Petra Thorén said everyone else trained while Gudmundsson remained at the hotel. She described him as in a bad way with mild symptoms, declined to detail the illness and could not say if his condition had improved.
Team-mate Hjalmar Ekdal said they had been given little information, adding that Gudmundsson was likely in a bad way and isolating as much as possible.
The Leeds United left-back had only just returned after five weeks out with a hamstring problem sustained during April’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.
The report said he would be a given starter against Tunisia if he recovers. He is head coach Graham Potter’s preferred option at left wing-back and started both World Cup qualifying play-off ties.
Sweden begin their campaign against Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico on 15 June, then face the Netherlands in Houston, Texas five days later, before meeting Ao Tanaka’s Japan in Arlington on 26 June.
