Gabriel Gudmundsson will start for Sweden against Greece tonight after the hamstring problem that kept him out of Leeds United’s final four games. Sweden begin their World Cup against Tunisia on June 15.

He was hurt after the FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea, and an initial two-game estimate proved optimistic. He then missed Monday’s warm-up with Norway.

Graham Potter said, “Gabriel will start. It has been part of the plan.” This will be Gudmundsson’s first World Cup.

Leeds are due FIFA payments for releasing Gudmundsson, Ao Tanaka, Brenden Aaronson and Noah Okafor. There is no £4m clause to trigger if Crysencio Summerville makes his Netherlands debut, and Leeds also look set to miss out on FIFA compensation for his minutes in North America because he did not play competitively for the club before his August move to West Ham United.

Summerville discussed his journey to the World Cup, including relocating to England at 19. “At Leeds, they did everything they could to be there for me like family. That always gave me the motivation to keep going.” He told nu.nl.

Speaking about former team-mate Raphinha, he added, “He showed what it takes to work hard.”

Marco Silva’s exit from Fulham means Daniel Farke now ranks among the top five longest-serving active Premier League managers at their current clubs. Only Mikel Arteta, Eddie Howe, Kieran McKenna and Unai Emery are ahead. Farke’s three-year anniversary at Leeds falls on July 4.
