Gabriel Mec has rejected an offer from Shakhtar Donetsk, pausing a potential move to Ukrainian football. His representatives said in a statement that he turned down the proposal, disputed reports about his future, denied any rift with Grêmio, and highlighted a recent respectful meeting with president Odorico Roman.

Grêmio had accepted a €12 million bid, but the deal required the player’s approval.

In recent weeks, suggestions around the club indicated Mec had voiced an interest in a European move this window during a first half of the year conversation. That dialogue did occur, but there has been no disagreement between the parties.

If no international transfer is finalised before the current window closes, the club and his camp plan to meet again to discuss a possible contract renewal.

Last year, he also declined a €15 million approach from Shakhtar, preferring other European leagues.
