Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has outlined Liverpool’s threat and weaknesses, ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League tie between the clubs.

The Turkish champions welcome Liverpool to Istanbul for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie tomorrow evening.

It’s the second time that the clubs have met in the competition this season, with Galatasaray claiming a 1-0 win in the league phase.

The Istanbul outfit eliminated Juventus in the previous round and are aiming to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2012-13.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, Buruk said his side will be well aware of Liverpool’s threat from set pieces, singling out Virgil van Dijk as a chief threat. However, Buruk believes Liverpool can be hurt in transition from their own attacking set pieces.

“They’re very good at set pieces, especially with players like Van Dijk who are highly effective in attacking set pieces,” he told the media.

“They have five good, tall players, we’ll need to take precautions against this. We’ll work on it. Liverpool is a team that concedes quite a few goals from offensive set-piece transitions.”
