Galatasaray have confirmed Victor Osimhen will be out for about three weeks after a groin injury sustained in Friday's 3-2 win over İstanbul Başakşehir.
The 27-year-old Nigeria international opened the scoring, then was withdrawn in the 33rd minute. The club said in a statement that MRI examinations in Istanbul showed a moderate strain with tendon irritation in the groin.
Medical staff have ruled out painkilling injections during his recovery, with experts consulted stressing they are unsuitable for groin tendon problems and could cause long-term structural damage.
He is set to miss the opening main phase match against Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League, the Trendyol Süper Lig matchday five meeting with Kocaelispor, and the league trip to Trabzonspor.
Midfielder Mario Lemina, withdrawn at half-time of the same game, has a muscle tear and will be out for two to three weeks.
In Osimhen's absence, Galatasaray will turn to €10 million signing Deniz Gül and Turkish international winger Barış Alper Yılmaz to lead the line in Europe and domestically.
