Gale's late header lifts Bolton to 17th in Championship

Bolton Wanderers beat Cardiff City 1-0 on Saturday in Bolton, a result that lifts the hosts from 21st to 17th in the Championship and leaves winless Cardiff down in 21st.

Cardiff carried the early threat, with Gavin Bazunu saving from Yousef Salech and Christopher Willock as the visitors forced the issue.

At half time Steven Schumacher introduced Thelonius Bair and Thierry Gale. The pair combined for the decisive moment in the 90th minute, Bair crossing for Gale to glance a header into the bottom right corner.

Bazunu then preserved the points with another sharp stop from Callum Robinson in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.

Cardiff finished with 17 attempts and 10 on target. Bolton managed seven attempts, finding the target five times. Bazunu made 10 saves.
