Junior Kroupi has been replaced by Ben Gannon-Doak in Bournemouth’s Europa League squad under a UEFA long-term injury rule, ahead of the opening match against Real Sociedad.

According to Bournemouth Echo, boss Marco Rose omitted the Scottish winger from the initial List A because UEFA limits left him short of club-trained players. Bournemouth could name only 19 senior outfielders and two goalkeepers, so Gannon-Doak was initially left out.

Kroupi has been sidelined this season after foot surgery following an injury suffered in Austria during pre-season. UEFA regulations allow one List A replacement for a long-term injury or illness lasting at least 60 days. Bournemouth can reinstate Kroupi in place of Gannon-Doak once he is fit.

Gannon-Doak has impressed when used, starring in the 4-0 win over Lincoln City in the League Cup. He also looked sharp off the bench in the weekend draw with Brentford.

With Kroupi likely to miss the first three or four Europa League fixtures and Gannon-Doak available, the club have made the switch. The winger will travel with the squad to Spain tomorrow for Thursday evening’s opener.
