Leeds United enter a decisive 48-hour spell in the relegation fight, with pundits outlining how a win could transform their position.
Crystal Palace host West Ham tonight. On Wednesday Leeds visit Bournemouth and Manchester City travel to Burnley. By Wednesday night Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers could be relegated, City could be top for the first time this season, and Leeds could be 11 points clear of Tottenham in the final relegation place.
Victory on the south coast would leave Spurs needing either three wins and two draws, or four wins, from their last five, with both routes requiring a result against Leeds. Such a win would make Leeds virtually guaranteed to stay up.
On talkSPORT, Ally McCoist said Tottenham are running out of games while Leeds and Forest keep collecting points, calling tonight’s West Ham game massive. He pointed to Spurs having only two points from nine games and no league win this year, and questioned how they find 10 from 15.
On Rest is Football, Gary Lineker said a West Ham win would leave Spurs four points adrift with five to play. He felt Tottenham had played really well but suffered a devastating late blow, and called them serious favourites to go down.
On Match of the Day, Wayne Rooney said Spurs are in it, have a tough run, and that if West Ham win their game in hand it will be difficult for Tottenham, adding he thinks they are going to go. Danny Murphy said a West Ham win would widen the gap and pressure, and that Wolves is a must-win for Spurs.
On talkSPORT, Alan Pardew said Leeds looked in big trouble two weeks ago but now have a great platform. With nine wins already, he argued that 10 usually does the job, adding that if they get a 10th win, he thinks they are safe.
