Gasperini on Roma’s ambitions amid title race with Inter: “Our goal is to improve day by day.” | OneFootball

A few days before Roma-Inter, Gian Piero Gasperini gave a long exclusive interview to Sky Sport.

“I was hoping we’d get off to a good start. We were convinced that we had a good run-in behind us, and a team that started with an advantage compared to the beginning of last season: we have been together longer, we know each other better, we have already assimilated many things.”

“Scudetto? That is not the way to raise the bar. The bar isn’t raised by setting more or less achievable goals: it’s raised by improving every day, working on ourselves through this variety of players with all their own characteristics, trying to do better every time.”

“We certainly have some flaws, otherwise I’d have nothing left to do, and so I’ll continue to look for them, but with an increasingly meticulous search: we’ve eliminated the major flaws. The greatest virtue, among many, is that a great unity has been created between the environment, the team, the fans, and the club, and this is something that helps you work well and gives you the confidence to achieve the best results.”

“The environment has a huge impact. But as I’ve always said, it has a positive, not negative, influence, because it’s an environment of great passion and love for one’s team, and so these are all very positive components. For my part, I immediately tried to enter with the professionalism that has always accompanied me throughout my career, trying to gain appreciation for the work I do. Right now, I feel a lot of appreciation around me, and this is also a great motivation to always try to repay this trust.”

“We realize that all sorts of predictions are being made around us, and rightly so: people have their dreams, they want the best. As for us, like every year, we have to face reality. And the reality is that you can only talk about objectives after about twenty games. Setting them after four or five matchdays makes no sense. Of course we’re confident, of course we want to stay high in the standings, but right now this is the only concrete objective.”
