Gattuso rules out Icardi free transfer to Lazio | OneFootball

Lazio will not sign Mauro Icardi on a free, Gennaro Gattuso said on Friday at his press conference, drawing a line under the speculation. The Argentine can still move outside the window after his Galatasaray contract expired in June 2026.

His entourage held talks with Lazio in the summer, and negotiations resumed last week, Sky Sport Italia reported.

Gattuso said nobody doubts Icardi’s quality, citing the striker’s 250 career goals, but explained the club had committed to Andrea Pinamonti and Albert Gudmundsson and would not go back on promises made to new signings.

He added the squad is already bloated, noting there are six full-backs in training and that when Adam Marusic returns, two will have to be left out, which he said would not look right.

Icardi, 33, has scored 121 goals in 219 Serie A appearances. Lazio have started the league season with three wins and one draw.

Gattuso took charge last summer on a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign. Lazio visit strugglers Venezia at the Stadio Penzo tomorrow, Saturday 19 September.
