Il Messaggero reports that Gennaro Gattuso has given Lazio the green light to pursue Brighton centre-back Diego Coppola, although he is not the coach’s preferred choice.

The Biancocelesti are preparing to part ways with Alessio Romagnoli, who is expected to join Al-Sadd, while Napoli are pushing to buy Mario Gila. Club figures Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani are targeting one or two defensive additions.

Coppola, 22, emerged at Hellas Verona before an €11 million move to Brighton last summer. Short on minutes in England, he spent the second half of the season at Paris FC.

Gattuso is understood to favour Sergi Dominguez or Arnau Martinez instead. Dominguez, 21, left Barcelona’s academy for Dinamo Zagreb last summer, became a key figure and helped deliver a domestic double. Dinamo are said to want €12-13 million.

Martinez, 23, is a right-back who can also operate centrally and has one year left on his Girona deal. His contract features an €8 million release clause, but Lazio must raise funds first because they are operating to a net-zero budget this summer.
