Il Messaggero reports that Gennaro Gattuso plans to field his strongest available Lazio XI in Sunday’s friendly at Frosinone, his final run-out before next weekend’s Coppa Italia tie with Mantova.
The match at the Stadio Benito Stirpe kicks off at 20:45 CET. Newly promoted Frosinone are Lazio’s only top-flight opponents this pre-season, and the Biancocelesti have won their first five warm-ups against their Primavera and four lower-division teams.
Christos Mandas is expected to start in goal, now first choice after Ivan Provedel’s move to Inter Milan. Adam Marusic and Alfonso Pedraza should flank centre-backs Danilho Doekhi and Oliver Provstgaard, with Alessio Romagnoli’s situation unresolved.
Nicolo Rovella is due to resume the regista role after an injury-hit season, linking with Kenneth Taylor. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could operate as a hybrid between box-to-box and No 10, with Gattuso weighing 4-2-3-1 against 4-3-3.
Boulaye Dia should lead the line, while Petar Ratkov could be sold to Dynamo Moscow after a reported €18 million offer. Mattia Zaccagni and Tijjani Noslin are in line to start wide, with Noslin ahead of Matteo Cancellieri as Gustav Isaksen continues his post-surgery recovery.
Probable XI, 4-3-3, Mandas, Marusic, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Pedraza, Dele-Bashiru, Rovella, Taylor, Noslin, Dia, Zaccagni.
More than 2,500 Lazio fans are expected to travel, echoing the scene in Ascoli last Sunday. Organised groups will continue to boycott home games in protest against president Claudio Lotito, but plan to make themselves heard away.
