AC Milan are looking to take on a more Italian influence during the summer, and that includes some of their transfer targets too.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that CEO Giorgio Furlani has made the decision that the new sporting director and head coach must be Italian, or must at least have experience in Serie A.

In the last two transfer windows only one Italian player was signed and that was Riccardo Sottil, on an initial loan deal from Fiorentina. From the summer more attention will be paid to signing players domestically, to ‘give stronger identity to the dressing room’.

There is also the squad list issue which feeds into this, given the requirement for a certain amount of academy graduates and homegrown players. Thus, there will be an Azzurri focus when it comes to the summer business.

One name that is circled as a target is Pietro Comuzzo. The priority is to strengthen other departments, but the defender – also called up by Luciano Spalletti to the national team – is very popular.

He is not the only Italian under the magnifying glass for next season, the report adds, amid rumours that Samuele Ricci and Lorenzo Lucca are names that the management are monitoring.
