Genoa have paused in their work to sign Lazio defender Denis Vavro, due to a groin issue, according to a report from Italian journalist Nicolò Schira on his Twitter page earlier today.

The report details how the 24-year-old Slovakian defender, who is currently contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2024, was set to join the Rossoblu on a six-month loan deal with a €15 million buy option attached.

He underwent his medicals with the Ligurian club last week, but pen has not yet been put to paper, due to the results of those tests.

Vavro has an issue with his pubalgia, which is a strain or tear in the soft tissue of his groin. This could turn into a hernia in the future.

Due to this, Genoa have not yet committed to the deal and talks are ongoing. A new offer could be submitted with lower figures, but it also could be cancelled outright.

Schira described the situation on Twitter, saying:

Problems of pubalgia at the basis of Genoa’s braking for the purchase of Dennis Vavro on loan with right of redemption at €15M from Lazio. The situation is fluid: the deal could be touched up with lower figures, but it could also be cancelled. Hot hours.
