Gerard Pusó’s reign is under way at Servigroup Peñíscola FS, the 34-year-old from Callús leading a demanding opening week of pre-season. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he steps up after four years as Santi Valladares’s assistant.

The squad gathered on Monday for the presentation, then began training on Tuesday. Sessions ran morning and afternoon from Tuesday to Thursday, with a single workout on Friday morning. There is no rest this weekend, with double sessions on both Saturday and Sunday.

Pusó said he starts the job with enthusiasm and will try to make Peñíscola competitive and awkward for any opponent. He stressed the style will be shaped by the players.

He views the squad as deep and well balanced, citing high-level defenders, wingers of different profiles, dominant pivots and goalkeepers able to contribute in attack. Sporting director Álex Catalán shares the positive assessment, while Pusó and assistant Jordi Gay accept the task of maximising each player.

The primary aim is survival in Primera División, with humility and realism. If safety comes early, they will seek further targets, and if a push for higher places is possible they will pursue it. Pusó added that high standards and ambition will define the team, and he voiced no doubt about that.

The first test arrives on Friday 14 August at 20.00 at Juan Vizcarro, where Peñíscola face ElPozo Murcia, the current league runners-up.
