Germany Women’s coach Christian Wück announced his squad for the UEFA Nations League semi-final tie against France. The Euro 2025 semi-finalists will host the first-leg in Düsseldorf on October 24th before the return fixture four days later.
Wück recalled three players who didn’t make the squad for last summer’s tournament. Lena Oberdorf is back in the squad after a solid return from a long-serving knee injury she sustained in July 2024 with the national team. Athletic Club’s defender Bibiane Schulze Solano and Frankfurt’s striker Nicole Anyomi are also recalled to the side.
The national team’s captain, Giulia Gwinn, also returns after her injury in Germany’s opening Euro 2025 game against Poland. Meanwhile, there are four absentees due to injuries or match fitness.
Germany’s star in Switzerland, Ann-Katrin Berger, is the most notable one as Gotham FC’s goalkeeper is out with a knee injury. RB Leipzig’s Giovanna Hoffmann, Wolfsburg’s Sophia Kleinherne, and Manchester City’s Rebecca Knaak are also missing from the squad list.
Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Laura-Johanna Dick, Wolfsburg’s Camilla Küver, and Shekiera Martinez from West Ham earned their first national team callup. Kathrin Hendrich, who joined Chicago Stars in the summer, is the most experienced player in the squad with 86 caps.
Germany knocked out France in the last two European championships. But France were 2-1 winners when the two teams met in a similar stage of this competition in February 2024.
33,000 tickets have already been sold for the first-leg at Merkur Spiel-Arena. Spain and Sweden will lock horns in the other semi-final. The final will also be played in a two-legged format on November 28th and December 2nd.
