Germany forced to debut new black kit against Netherlands after UEFA bans retro shirt | OneFootball

When Germany face the Netherlands in Jürgen Klopp’s debut as head coach in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday, they will be wearing their new black away kit.

The kit – the last Adidas jersey before Nike takes over as the national team’s kit supplier in January – was unveiled on Wednesday evening.

According to Bild, the initial plan was not for the black kit to be debuted on Thursday, but for Germany to wear the green retro away shirt from 1990 instead.

However, the German tabloid reports that UEFA prevented the team from wearing the green shirt because it doesn't comply with UEFA Nations League regulations.

Among other things, the sleeves must be left clear for the Nations League emblem, while the shirt number must also appear on the chest. Neither of these requirements could be met with the retro edition.

The match between Netherlands and Germany kicks off on Thursday at 20:45 CEST.
