Germany will meet Greece again in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, with Jürgen Klopp’s side aiming to make up for their defeat in the opening meeting between the two teams.
Klopp’s time in charge has been uneven so far. Germany opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, before suffering an unexpected 1-0 home loss to Greece. They responded well in their latest outing, though, beating Serbia 2-0 in Munich—a result that gave the new manager his first competitive victory and restored some confidence to the squad.
Germany remain a work in progress under Klopp, who has rotated his squad heavily while dealing with several important absences. Jamal Musiala is still sidelined with a thigh problem, and Kai Havertz has left the camp to return to Arsenal.
With those players unavailable, Germany will look to their younger options for inspiration. Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz, who both found the net against Serbia, are likely to be central to their attacking plans. At the back, Waldemar Anton and Malick Thiaw are expected to provide stability.
Germany’s main challenge will be dealing with Greece’s compact, counter-attacking approach—the same tactic that caused them problems in the first meeting.
Possible Germany starting XI: Urbig; Treu, Thiaw, Anton, Raum; Gnabry, Pavlovic, Bischof, El Mala; Woltemade, Wirtz
The match will kick off at 7:45pm BST on Sunday, 4th October.
